Penang Trip 18th December 2009

18/12/2009
We started our journey from Kuala Lumpur at 6 am and stop over at Bidor for Duck noddle (Pun Chun Restaurant)
I love the noddle but my daughter did not like the taste...We reached Penang at about 11.30 am and we checked into the Continental Hotel at Penang Road immediately.Upon checking in , our next immediate action is to look for Penang Foods !!! I use my GPS to guide me to Kedai Kopi Kwai Lock , we were very disappointed and the foods were below our expectation, my rating for this shop with 1/2 star ( Are we late for lunch at 1 pm ??? and most of the stalls were closed for the day )
Our first stop was the waterfall located around Batu Feringhi , the road leading to the waterfall was quite bad (muddy road) .My kids were quite happy about the place but be careful when tracking around the waterfall...My son , Sim Yang fell down with slight injury..

Morning call for my daughter was 5.30 am because she need to wash her hair ..bra bra
I suppose she stay late and online chat with her friends ....She look so tired..:),the hotel we stayed did not provide free internet service and pricing for the service is $Rm 6 /hour and $Rm 15 for 24 hours ..this sound stupid ???

We proceed to Penang Hill at 8 am and due to the public holiday , we found getting  a parking lot near the Tram station was a big problem and most of the cars parked haphazardly along road leading to the housing area.

Sri Aruloli Thirumurugan, or better known as thePenang Hill Hindu Temple, is one ofthe oldest Hindu temples in Penang. It started off in the 1800's as a small shrine to the Hindu deity Murugan - the deity associated with Thaipusam - by the Indian sepoys and sedan chair carriers, and is located at a mount within Penang Hill called Gun Hill. A trident, or Murugan Vel, was installed there by the devotees. Over the years, it was enlarged and rebuilt. The present-day incarnation of the Sri Aruloli Thirumurugan is a very ornate Hindu temple in the Dravidianarchitectural style of South India.

The Dravidian style of constructing Hindu temples calls for four principal parts. The temple proper, orvimana, is the shrine with a tower, amandapa, or porch, gopurams, or gate towers, and
chawadis, or pillar halls. In addition, there would usually be a tank of water for use in sacred rituals or for cleansing.

The Kek Lok Si Temple (Penang Hokkien for "Temple of Supreme Bliss" or "Temple of Sukhavati"; Simplified Chinese: 极乐寺; Traditional Chinese: 極樂寺) is a Buddhist temple situated in Air Itam in Penang and is one of the best known temples on the island. It is the largest Buddhist temple inSoutheast Asia.

Great pictures of your family trip Kenny!

... and great effect from the ND8 to slow down the shutter enough to get the silk-like effect of the water flow. I am pleased to learn of your enjoyment of photography and look forward to reading and viewing more.

The waterfall is also a great place as the mass of greenery gives a chance to otherwise reduce contrast from direct sunlights.

cheers, Raymond
